Patient Appeals

You've recently received disappointing news from either your insurance company or physician's office that a procedure recently recommended by your physician has been denied.  You're upset and your physician is disappointed.  Now what?  Your physician says you can appeal, but doesn't seem very interested in taking this on.  Other patients are waiting, but what about you?  What can you do?

If you believe your physician's recommended treatment plan is in your best interest, then you have every right to appeal.  Did you know that most initial adverse determinations are made by nurses, not physicians?  By appealing, you are seeking a second opinion.  With your appeal, you need to specifically request review by a board-certified physician from the same specialty as your physician.

If you and your physician disagree with your insurance company's initial adverse determination, then we encourage you to take the lead in launching an appeal.  Through the years, we've seen the most successful appeals launched by patients who simply won't take "No" for an answer.  To help you tackle this unfortunate interference in the treatment plan recommended by your physician, choose one of META's template patient appeal letters.  When you order one of our appeal letters, you'll also receive our guide on how to launch an appeal.  In addition, we are available to help provide personal consultation by phone appointment, as well as help you compose your appeal letter following a phone consultation.  Here are your choices - download META's Guide to Launching an Appeal along with our template appeal letter.
